There are all sorts of government agencies that seize property for various reasons. The one agency that seems to get the most interesting stuff is the DEA, or US Drug Enforcement Agency.
The types of items the DEA comes into possession of are quite varied. This is because of places and people they 'do business' with. These items and property then end up at a government or DEA auction for the highest bidder to buy. The DEA cannot hold onto this stuff forever and the added cash they make really helps them stay operational.

A big category outside of vehicles is real estate. Houses, land, condos, buildings, etc can all be found in varied amounts. These will be more expensive than other items because, well, its property, but more often than not it'll still be greatly marked down and you can walk away with some great savings. This is also a great opportunity for blossoming real estate agents or landlords to start a business. They can find cheap property deals at these auctions, buy and fix them up, then resell them for profit. This is an opportunity though, not a guarantee, so always do your research beforehand.
Electronics is a hot category at these auctions. TVs, cameras, radios, dvd players, music players, laptops, computers, and tons more are all there. People love technology these days and a DEA auction is a great place to find cheap gadgets. The items are usually not 'run of the mill' random junk either.
Remember, the property at these auctions is used so always consider the adage 'buyer beware'. Inspect the items, consider the quality, research pricing for new and used in other areas to get a sense of value and also how well the item is supposed to work and then bid accordingly.
Finding auctions is pretty easy. While these auctions will not take place all the time, when they do they will post notices in local newspapers, and even online. They maintain databases of all sorts of auctions and even the types of things you can find at these auctions.
